EG.D: Network and Security Infrastructure
Customer: EG.D, a.s.
Project period: 2020–2029
Customer and requirements
EG.D operates a complex communications infrastructure spanning administrative and technical facilities and energy distribution sites. It combines physically and virtually segmented networks with technologies from several leading vendors.
The company plans infrastructure renewal over the medium and long term. In 2020 it conducted preliminary market consultations to assess options for its future infrastructure. The findings informed a tender for network and security equipment and related consulting services.
Main challenges
- Acquire modern technology covering more than 1,000 devices across all network segments.
- Find a qualified partner for consulting and implementation support.
- Transfer expertise to the customer’s operational teams.
- Test interoperability between new and existing technologies.
- Secure clearly defined product and support life cycles of at least eight years.
- Obtain competitive purchasing terms and a reliable long-term partner.
Why ComSource
EG.D selected ComSource through a tender, building on a long-standing relationship and experience gained during the preliminary market consultations. The contract significantly expanded the existing collaboration.
Scope of delivery
ComSource supplied more than 1,000 Juniper Networks devices across the core, aggregation and access layers. The scope included routers, aggregation switches, data center infrastructure with MACsec, and access infrastructure for wired and LTE connections.
ComSource also provides vendor maintenance support and repair services, consulting on deployment using reference architectures, and validation of operating models in its laboratory. Interoperability testing verifies how new technologies work with the customer’s existing platforms. The CS Academy program transfers practical knowledge to operational teams.
Key elements
- Juniper Networks Elite partnership and authorized support.
- A spare-parts stock supporting maintenance and repairs.
- Consulting and implementation advice.
- Laboratory facilities for interoperability tests and proofs of concept.
- CS Academy training for the customer’s operational teams.
Results described in the project
Deliveries of more than 1,000 devices were completed on time, including during the COVID period, with delivery times within 180 days. The original project account also recorded subsequent deliveries in less than a month; delivery times depend on the specific order and availability.
A local spare-parts stock helps ComSource respond to service requests. Its laboratory supports rapid interoperability testing and validation of proposed operating models. Regular training and long-term support help EG.D pursue its infrastructure development plans.
