A revolution in wireless networks: businesses need to prepare for the opportunities of Wi-Fi 7
Wi-Fi 7, the next generation of Wi-Fi, promises a revolution in wireless connectivity, with significantly higher speeds of up to 40 Gb/s, lower latency and improved security. These technologies open the door to a wide range of innovative applications, from seamless 8K video streaming and augmented reality to autonomous vehicles. They enable smarter homes to operate more efficiently, support the development of Industry 4.0 and create new opportunities in healthcare, education and entertainment. Experts at Czech company ComSource stress the importance of early planning and preparation for this new wireless standard, as the transition will involve more than simply replacing one generation of access points with another. With network equipment typically refreshed every three to five years, Czech businesses should already be incorporating Wi-Fi 7 into their long-term network strategies. As modern Wi-Fi capabilities expand, particularly transmission capacity, the rest of the network infrastructure will also need to be balanced accordingly.
“Wi-Fi 7 represents a significant step forward for Czech companies. Although we expect production deployments from 2026, businesses should start planning now,” says Jaroslav Cihelka, co-owner of ComSource, which specialises in cybersecurity, network infrastructure and data analytics. “Early preparation will enable a smooth transition and ensure that investments in network infrastructure remain sustainable over the long term. The new standard will offer faster, more stable connectivity while opening up opportunities for innovation in industrial automation, remote management and big data analytics. Companies that invest in this technology early will gain a significant competitive advantage.”
Wi-Fi 7 will bring major improvements across industries. In manufacturing, it will enable more precise predictive maintenance and more efficient monitoring of production lines. In retail, it will support detailed analysis of customer movement and personalised offers. Smart hotels will be able to deliver personalised services with seamless connectivity. “We see considerable potential in indoor navigation,” adds Jaroslav Cihelka of ComSource. “Accurate location services could significantly improve wayfinding in airports and shopping centres.”
ComSource’s experts expect the technology to begin gaining traction in Czechia from the following year. “We are already working on pilot projects with several leading Czech companies,” says Jaroslav Cihelka. “We expect wider adoption to begin during 2026, when a broader range of compatible devices will be available and the regulatory environment will be fully prepared for the use of new frequency bands.”
From a technical perspective, Wi-Fi 7 introduces several key innovations. Using the 6 GHz band will significantly relieve pressure on the congested 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. Advanced modulation will improve transmission efficiency while reducing energy requirements. “Another important aspect is the implementation of the new WPA4 security protocol. This will give companies better protection against increasingly sophisticated cyber threats,” explains Jaroslav Cihelka.
ComSource’s experts recommend several steps to prepare effectively for Wi-Fi 7:
- Analyse existing infrastructure and identify areas that need upgrading.
- Develop a long-term network modernisation plan that takes Wi-Fi 7 into account.
- Train IT staff in the new technologies.
- Consider pilot projects to test Wi-Fi 7 on a smaller scale.
“Moving to Wi-Fi 7 is not simply a hardware replacement exercise. It is an opportunity to reassess the overall network strategy and optimise it for future needs, including support for IoT devices, robotics and other advanced applications,” concludes Jaroslav Cihelka of ComSource.
